What are we living for?

I just don't understand the state of our society.  Over the past 100 years our society has had evolutions in technology, industry and medicine.  We have grown to be the wealthiest nation in the whole world.  Even with all of these advantages that have been bestowed upon us we still are not happy.  Some chase money.  Some chase power.  Some chase fame.  Everyone is trying to achieve something in hopes of making them happier.  None of these things work.

In Red Lake Minnesota this week a lost teen brought his gun to school and killed several students, a school security officer, his grand parents and ultimately himself.  He was searching for happiness.  He was what some would call an outcast.  He started to buy into the idea that everyone was against him.  All he wanted was to have community.  He found his community on the Internet with various websites and message boards that encouraged his destructive behavior. 

It's time for America to have a reality check.  With all the bad things that go on day to day, it's time to re-evaluate what our life is for and what we're living for.  It should be evident to us that no matter how hard we try we will never be able to satisfy our biggest critic -- Ourself.  We will be lost and continue to live our lives and do anything we need to do to be accepted. 

There is a way to achieve this community and belonging.  It's through belief in God.  The only way to quench our thirst for life and happiness is to believe that he died for our sins.  Only after doing this can we really feel free.  Chasing after anything else will only lead to disappointment and emptyness....  Anyone who is true to themselves will admit that they are not totally happy.  They may seem happy but it's only a fasade.  Everyone has a God shaped hole in their heart.  Find him today.

Working 9 to 5

It's Friday morning and i'm sitting here at work.  I am somewhat in a daze because I really don't want to be here.  I have been here most of this week and I am having a hard time getting motivated.  All I really want to do is sleep.  This should be another exciting weekend!  I am planning on playing raquetball tomorrow morning with a friend and i'll probably go and get a haircut.  I was thinking of doing something different this time. 

Maybe like the picture below.

I'm sure it would be cool in Europe when I go there next month.  I want to be able to fit in to their culture so i'll be wearing black shoes, no white sox and sporting a mohawk!

The Eye of the Tiger

Tonight I watched an amazing show.  It's called the Contender and it was aired on NBC.  Normally I'm not a huge reality TV kind of guy but since I do like the Apprentice, I thought that I'd give The Contender a try.  When it first came on, I wasn't sure what to think when I saw Sylvester Stalone as the spokesperson.  He was of course Rocky, but does that give him the right to be put on a show about Boxing?  That's like saying that I can be the next Cheerios Bee just because I like to snack on Honey Nut Cheerios every once in a while. 

I must say however that after the first 30 seconds I was drawn in.  The show started by them talking to a few of the contestants talking about their families and how they were fighting to make it, or to get out of the hood or to help pay for medical bills.  These guys were not fighting for themselves and their own glory but for a greater cause.  This gave them heart.  I found myself routing for some fighters more than others.  In the end there was a great match between a townie from Rhode Island and a another guy from Guadalajara, Mexico.  The guy from Mexico was virtually unknown.  He has won a fair share of fights but was not internationally known or ranked.  He CHOSE to fight the #3 ranked Middleweight boxer of the USA.  He beat the highly ranked boxer and won in a 5 round decision.  He had more heart and courage to do that than I can describe in words.  I was actually nervous to watch the 5 round fight and I was rooting out loud for a winner. 

I will definitely watch this show this Thursday when it airs again.  What a rush!

Spring is in the air

Today's official temperature was 60 degrees.  Part of the day I went around looking for apartments and enjoyed the weather.  The other part of the day consisted of cleaning the house and eating 6 cake donuts!  I should not have done that and now i'm paying for it...  Oh what lifes lessons have to offer!

Today's spring weather gave me a glimpse of a happier place that I only vaguely know...  That place is Summer.  I am really starting to get the urge to be outside, watch baseball (on tv or in a dome), play softball and take a stroll around one of the many lakes in Minneapolis.  Why couldn't I have been born in a state where the weather is ALWAYS nice!!!  I guess that's my parents fault.  Instead of moving to and from Michigan and North Dakota, they should have retreated south where the sun is always warming and the girls don't wear sweaters most of the year.  This magical place is anywhere south of the state of Kansas!  East, West, South, whatever.  Just not Midwest.

Only 28 days until Opening Day!  I can't wait.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night!

Once again...  It's Saturday night and I'm here sitting at my computer.  When am I going to get a life and find something to do on the weekends.  Don't get me wrong...  I do go out and have fun on some weekends.  Recently I've been pretty busy.  My problem is that all of my friends are either married or dating someone.  During the natural downtime when hanging out with the girlfriend happens I am left with absolutely nothing to do.  I guess I should find a girl to fill those periods of time.
